PACIDA proudly launches the Anticipatory Hub, a platform dedicated to sharing knowledge, learning, and best practices on early preparedness and community resilience. Through this hub, we aim to equip communities, stakeholders, and partners with timely information and actionable tools to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to disasters before they escalate.

Rolling Out the OND 2025 Weather Forecast
PACIDA recently convened key multi-stakeholders including Indigenous Traditional Forecasters, government agencies, development partners, and community representatives to roll out the OND 2025 (October–December) weather forecast using Participatory Scenario Planning in Isiolo Central, Garbatulla, and Oldonyiro wards.
This initiative focused on disseminating forecasts and outlining likely outcomes to trigger timely preparedness measures, enabling communities to strengthen their resilience ahead of climatic shocks. Funded by Christian Blind Mission (CBM), the Anticipatory Humanitarian Action program supports early preparedness and action to protect livelihoods and maintain the social fabric of local communities.

Isiolo County Strengthens Anticipatory Action for Early Preparedness
Building on ongoing efforts, the Isiolo County Government, in collaboration with PACIDA and partners, convened a pivotal one-day workshop to strengthen anticipatory action systems in the county and reinforce multi-stakeholder coordination through the Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Technical Working Group.
Senior county officers highlighted Isiolo’s vulnerability as one of Kenya’s most disaster-prone regions, facing cyclical droughts, floods, conflict-related shocks, and disease outbreaks. They emphasized the urgent need to shift from reactive interventions to proactive, anticipatory approaches, enabling communities to take action before shocks escalate.
“Investing in anticipatory action is not just about saving resources; it’s fundamentally about protecting lives, livelihoods, and the dignity of our communities,” said Barnabas Esunyen, Chief Officer for Peace and Reconciliation.
Judith Karendi, Acting Chief Officer for Public Participation, Gender, and Culture Ag., emphasized the community dimension, noting that these efforts “ensure that our people are active participants in building their own resilience, not just recipients of aid.”
The workshop highlighted strategies to enhance early warning capacities, establish anticipatory triggers, and improve coordinated early action, with the goal of protecting lives, livestock, essential livelihoods, and assets before shocks escalate into full-scale humanitarian emergencies.
PACIDA and partners pledged continued support to strengthen anticipatory action systems, foster peaceful coexistence, and enhance community resilience. The forum brought together stakeholders from county departments, national agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and rapid response teams, reinforcing proactive, anticipatory, and collaborative early action across Isiolo County.
